Looks like I’ll be picking up my Subie on Monday and since winter has started here I’ll be putting winter tires on it immediately. They will go on the stock wheels, because I don’t care much for their looks, so I’ll need another set for the tires that come with it. What’s the consensus on this setup?

I’d likely go for a set of the forged BBS variant instead of the cast Enkei version, because racecar. I can pick up a set for ~$700 locally and refinish them over the winter.

I’ll also probably pick up a set of RPF1s and RE71Rs over the winter for autocross so as much as I love those wheels, I’d rather not buy 2 sets of them.

I really like it. Silver on silver works

My car is going to be world rally blue, like the second picture. I’ll probably go with silver because I usually prefer to be subtle but I can see the appeal of gold with the rally history.

Why not get a set in Silver and a Set in Gold that’s what I do. More wheels and tires are better.

More wheels and tires are better (I’ve got three sets for my Golf too) but I don’t really want two that are the same, even if they’re different colours.

I was thinking gold for the RPF1s, though I’m at the mercy of availability Kijiji/forums on that one.

yeah but the factor bbs wheels are the lightest strongest wheels you’ll find for the STi . There’s not really a better option unless you really care about looks....and i mean come on we are talking about an STI here they are so ugly they look good.

Haha, agreed that the WRX/STI aren’t lookers. I believe the RPF1 at the same size is actually lighter than the BBS and while they won’t be as strong, they’ll handle autocross duty just fine. The BBS will be better for potholes and generally rough (gravel) roads around here, that’s why I’m looking at it for daily use. Plus, I like the looks of them.

The BBS’s take a beating....with the 5x114.3 bolt spacing the RPF1 weight in at 16.05lbs the bbs’s are 15.7lbs.... edit i could have the wrong bbs this might be the weight of the 5x100 bolt pattern.

Yeah, the 5x100 model from the ‘04 is 7.5" wide and cast by Enkei, I think. The 5x114.3 is 8" wide and forged.

I think I’ve seen just a shade under 20lbs quoted for the forged BBS. A couple of pounds less than the stock 17x8" that will come on my car, but a couple of pounds more than the RPF1.

Just because I had to look it up. the 05-06 STI wheels made by BBS are 19.5lbs....but the 07 wheels are made by Enkei and weigh 20.5lbs. They are all stamped by who made them 05-06 stis also have bbs center caps, 07 have sti center caps.
